Dimension Reduction for Finite Trees in ℓ 1

چکیده
We show that every n-point tree metric admits a (1 + ε)-embedding into ` C(ε) logn 1 , for every ε > 0, where C(ε) ≤ O ( ( 1ε ) 4 log 1ε ) ) . This matches the natural volume lower bound up to a factor depending only on ε. Previously, it was unknown whether even complete binary trees on n nodes could be embedded in ` O(logn) 1 with O(1) distortion. For complete d-ary trees, our construction achieves C(ε) ≤ O ( 1 ε2 ) .

Dimension reduction techniques for $\ell_p$, $1 \le p \le 2$, with applications
For ℓ 2 , there exists the powerful dimension reduction transform of Johnson and Lindenstrauss [JL84], with a host of known applications. Here, we consider the problem of dimension reduction for all ℓ p spaces 1 ≤ p < ∞. Although strong lower bounds are known for dimension reduction in ℓ 1 , Ostrovsky and Rabani [OR02] successfully circumvented these by presenting an ℓ 1 embedding that maintain...

متن کاملE 10 and SO ( 9 , 9 ) invariant supergravity
We show that (massive) D = 10 type IIA supergravity possesses a hidden rigid D 9 ≡ SO(9, 9) symmetry and a hidden local SO(9) × SO(9) symmetry upon dimensional reduction to one (time-like) dimension. We explicitly construct the associated locally supersymmetric Lagrangian in one dimension, and show that its bosonic sector, including the mass term, can be equivalently described by a truncation o...
متن کاملComplete wetting near an edge of a rectangular-shaped substrate.
We consider fluid adsorption near a rectangular edge of a solid substrate that interacts with the fluid atoms via long range (dispersion) forces. The curved geometry of the liquid-vapour interface dictates that the local height of the interface above the edge ℓ(E) must remain finite at any subcritical temperature, even when a macroscopically thick film is formed far from the edge. Using an inte...
متن کاملM ar 1 99 4 BANACH SPACES WITH THE 2 - SUMMING PROPERTY
A Banach space X has the 2-summing property if the norm of every linear operator from X to a Hilbert space is equal to the 2-summing norm of the operator. Up to a point, the theory of spaces which have this property is independent of the scalar field: the property is self-dual and any space with the property is a finite dimensional space of maximal distance to the Hilbert space of the same dime...
